Sex without the spider please musing

Don't wait for this scary ED cure

Forget the little blue pill. Some scientists think the answer to your penis problems may be found in a spider bite.

Yeah, that was my reaction too -- because that's the last place I want to find cobwebs.

Researchers have been studying venom from the Brazilian wandering spider, one of the world's most dangerous arachnids. One bite from this big, aggressive spider can cause a powerful and painful erection lasting for hours... and then lead to impotence.

That is, if you don't drop dead first.

Scientists have isolated the toxin from this nasty creature and found that it can create erections in impotent rats. Toxic spiders and sexually frustrated rodents -- all I can say is I'm glad I'm not leading THAT study.

But researchers say the spider venom causes a rise in nitric oxide levels, leading to erections. Viagra and other sex drugs to the same thing -- they just work in a different way.

While I'm all for alternatives to drugs with nasty side effects -- and don't kid yourself, every time you pop an impotence pill, you're taking a big risk -- turning yourself into Spider-Man isn't the answer.

The very thought of it gives me the heebie jeebies -- not exactly the sensation you're looking for when you're looking for some romance.

If you need a pick-me-up in the bedroom, don't pick up a prescription. And don't wait for some spider to give you a love bite.

Most cases of erectile dysfunction and impotence are related to low testosterone levels. Age and weight are two of the biggest reasons our levels drop -- so if you've put on the pounds along with the years, it's time to lose the weight before you lose your love life.

If weight alone isn't the answer, then work with your doctor to increase your testosterone levels.

You can also get a more immediate boost by taking vitamin E -- around 400mg per day -- along with some zinc, ginseng and fish oil.

And if you need another reason to get your sex life sizzling, keep reading...

They say the mind is the first thing to go... I say, not on my watch!

I've heard them called senior moments, brain hiccups and even brain farts!

But now you can help put an end to embarrassing and inconvenient situations -- forgetting names, missing appointments, losing your keys -- and shift your mental game into high-gear.

Why you should keep her satisfied

I've never doubted that great sex leads to greater happiness -- it certainly always puts a smile on my face -- but a new study paints a clear picture of just how important that love life is to her.

Women who have a satisfying sex life have a greater sense of well-being and vitality than women who are sexually unhappy.

But the latest study published in one of my favorite rags, the Journal of Sexual Medicine, lays it out bare, and maybe a little attention here will help get more couples off the sofa and into the sack.

The researchers looked at 295 women between the ages of 20 and 65 who had sex more than twice a month (not enough, but it's a start anyway).

Since all the women in this study were sexually active, we can assume that the frequency isn't always related to the quality -- clearly, plenty of women are having regular sex. It's just not very good.

And gentlemen, that's on you. Don't assume your sex life is sizzling just because it's active. Like any other part of your relationship, you need to communicate -- because clearly, your sex life can affect the overall health of at least one half of your marriage.

And while this study only looked at women, can there be any doubt that sexual satisfaction benefits both partners?

Gents, you know the score as well as I do -- when your better half is happy and has a greater sense of well-being and vitality, you're happy too.

And when she's not -- watch out.

A true believer in sexual healing,

William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.
